The Māori Land Court invites all descendants of Mary Naera to a special hui to kōrero the future of whenua in Urenui still held in her name. A decision may be made to protect this whenua as a Māori Reservation. Nau mai, uru mai.

The Māori Land Court has directed that a hui be convened for the descendants of Mary Naera (also known as Mere Naera, Mere Naera Pomare, Mere Nicol, Mere Nikora, Mere Tuhata, Mere Hautonga).
Ngā kōrero matua: Mary Naera, who passed in 1890, purchased land in Urenui from the Crown following the Taranaki raupatu. The whenua remains in her name and is located at 44 Whakapaki Street, Urenui – Sections 14 and 15, Town of Urenui (2023 m² combined).
Mary was of Ngāti Mutunga and had two marriages – first to Inia Paihia, then to William Naera Pomare. Her children included William Damon, John Henry Damon/Hone Tuhata, Inia (Iria) Tuhata II, Matoha Tuhata, Rangihanu Tuhata, Ngaropi Tuhata, Pahi Pomare, Maui Pomare, Te Hia Pomare, and Piritaka Pomare.
To prevent the sale of this ancestral land due to abandoned land proceedings, a Judicial Conference was sought. The Court now calls a hui to consider establishing a Māori Reservation.
