Ngāti Mutunga o Wharekauri Iwi Trust is seeking a passionate and motivated Project Manager to lead and coordinate our reo, karanga, whaikōrero, and waiata programme.

Ngāti Mutunga o Wharekauri joined local partners for a Climate Resilience Wānanga, exploring water security, renewable energy, and emergency preparedness. Together, we’re planning a future where our motu thrives despite the challenges of climate change.

He mihi mahana ki a koutou i tēnei wā. We write to share an important update on the recent High Court decision involving Moriori and our Treaty settlement journey, and to reaffirm our commitment to unity and shared respect on our motu.

The Annual General Meeting of the Ngati Mutunga o Wharekauri Iwi Trust (the Trust) will commence at 10:00 am on Saturday 27 September 2025 at Whakamaharatanga Marae, Te One, on Wharekauri, Chatham Islands.

All members of the Trust are invited to attend.

Ngāti Mutunga o Wharekauri has reached key milestones in Treaty settlement discussions, agreeing with the Crown on settlement value and the wording of acknowledgements and apology. The remaining issue—certainty over shared redress—remains unresolved amid Moriori litigation. While the Crown supports Ngāti Mutunga’s position, Moriori seeks court intervention. Ngāti Mutunga proposes alternative redress arrangements, but the Crown has yet to agree. Urgent hearings are scheduled, highlighting the critical juncture for finalising a Deed of Settlement.
